## Description

The Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) is a transformative organization dedicated to advancing conservation efforts while empowering indigenous communities in Northern Kenya and beyond. Established in 2004, NRT supports 47 community conservancies that collectively cover over 15 million acres and protect numerous endangered species, including the rare hirola antelope. With a focus on sustainable solutions, NRT’s pioneering Community Conservancy Model integrates wildlife protection and community development, ensuring that local people benefit from conserving their natural resources.

NRT also spearheads the Northern Kenya Rangelands Carbon Project, the world’s largest soil carbon removal initiative, generating income for conservation-led community projects. Through its diverse programs, NRT fosters peace, enhances livelihoods, and provides access to essential services such as clean water, health care, and education. By uniting historically divided communities, NRT not only prioritizes biodiversity protection but also improves the quality of life for a million people. Its mission reflects a commitment to sustainable coexistence between nature and community, reinforcing the principles of good governance and social justice.
