The Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) is an organization that aims to unify and elevate the teaching profession while improving the quality of education for young people. With over 10,000 active members, the NSTU represents primary to 12 public school teachers and teachers from the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority. The NSTU's organizational structure allows for effective communication between members and education partners such as the provincial Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Nova Scotia Community College, and various associations representing parents and administrators.

The union is governed by a 23-member Provincial Executive, including a full-time president, who, along with the Executive Director and staff, implements the policies and programs directed by the Council and the Executive. The NSTU offers various categories of membership, including active, retired, associate, regular, active reserve, and honorary members. Additionally, the union presents awards to recognize outstanding achievements in teaching and public education advocacy.
