IEEE Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) is a renowned honor society founded on October 28, 1904, catering to students of electrical engineering. With a mission to promote excellence in the profession and education, IEEE-HKN focuses on developing three fundamental ideals: Scholarship, Character, and Attitude. Originally established at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, this honor society offers tremendous opportunities for electrical engineering graduates to find employment and establish themselves in their careers.

Recognized worldwide, Eta Kappa Nu symbolizes the highest values in the Electrical & Computer Engineering field. Its founding members aimed to identify and prepare future leaders in this profession, even choosing the Greek letters ΗΚΝ from the word for electron. For over a century, HKN has embraced excellence and continues to encourage and recognize outstanding individuals in education, professional practice, and any IEEE-designated field.

The Lambda Omega Chapter at the National University of Singapore is the 176th chapter of IEEE-HKN, formed on February 2, 2013. This chapter offers unique opportunities for close interactions between faculty and students, fostering relationships and assisting students in developing essential life skills outside the classroom. Membership in IEEE-HKN is by invitation only, and eligibility is based on scholastic rank, character, voluntary services, and notable accomplishments. The members of the Lambda Omega chapter not only excel academically but also showcase strong leadership potential for their professional careers.
