## Description

**Brand Description: Natural Water Retention Measures (NWRM)**

The Natural Water Retention Measures (NWRM) initiative represents a transformative approach to water management in Europe, focusing on innovative measures designed to enhance water retention and ecosystem functionality. Launched by the European Commission’s DG Environment, the NWRM project was operational from September 2013 to November 2014, with a goal to develop a comprehensive knowledge base and foster a vibrant community of NWRM practitioners. This project is integral to addressing the objectives of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and Floods Directive, providing cost-effective, sustainable urban development solutions that reduce reliance on costly infrastructure.

NWRM offers a wealth of resources, including 120 case studies, a practical guide for implementation, and accessible communication materials in multiple languages, aimed at supporting stakeholders from diverse sectors such as urban planning, agriculture, and environmental NGOs. By facilitating discussions across four regional networks, NWRM has successfully mobilized experts and advocates, creating a collaborative atmosphere for sharing experiences, challenges, and innovations in water management practices throughout Europe.
