About

Description

NXTHVN is a brand that aims to empower artists, curators, and the community through education and access to a vibrant arts ecosystem. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, NXTHVN accelerates the careers of the next generation of artists and fosters the retention of professional art talent. With a focus on intergenerational mentorship, cross-sector collaboration, and local engagement, NXTHVN is dedicated to catalyzing New Haven into a world-class, sustainable arts community.

One of their key offerings is a unique year-long Fellowship Program that serves as a career accelerator for artists and curators. They provide support in both administrative and theoretical aspects of the profession, along with individual mentorship and access to leaders in the field. NXTHVN also offers a paid high school Apprenticeship Program that focuses on one-on-one mutual learning, providing local emerging artists with the opportunity to excel in the fine arts.

Additionally, NXTHVN encourages collaboration between artists, art professionals, and local entrepreneurs to further the growth of New Haven's creative community. They offer public programming and maintain private artist workspace, while their events and exhibitions are tailored to meet the needs and interests of their community of artists, curators, and neighbors. NXTHVN was founded by Titus Kaphar, Jason Price, and Jonathan Brand.

Their vision was to build an alternative model of art mentorship and career advising, while also creating opportunities for emerging local entrepreneurs. The organization is located in two former manufacturing plants in the Dixwell neighborhood of New Haven, with a space that was designed by Deborah Berke Partners. The brand's commitment extends to the Dixwell neighborhood and beyond, with a focus on cultivating cultural entrepreneurship and social innovation.

NXTHVN offers signature programs, a co-working space, and a business incubator, all with the goal of supporting the community and building connections between local concerns and creative research. The campus itself, designed by Deborah Berke Partners, is a contemporary multi-use space that supports innovative and creative work. It includes artist studios, business incubation offices, an artist-in-residency tower, and reception spaces, along with a forthcoming black box theater and cafe.

NXTHVN's public program of exhibitions and events deepen and strengthen the connections between local concerns and the creative research of their fellows, honoring the neighborhood's cultural past while building on its potential.
