## Description

The NYC Basketball History Project is an organization dedicated to researching, archiving, and sharing the legacy of basketball in New York City. Its work presents the city’s 120-year basketball story, tracing the game from neighborhood playgrounds to Madison Square Garden and highlighting the people, institutions, and places that shaped its development. The project describes New York as the “Mecca of Basketball” and aims to create both virtual and physical spaces where this history can be explored. Its website features historical tributes, a photo gallery, information about NYC basketball landmarks, and a blog and bookshop. It also lists a NYC Basketball History Tour, ambassadors, board and advisory board members, and motivational support among its activities and resources. Through its coverage of figures such as Nate “Tiny” Archibald, landmark venues such as the Renaissance Ballroom and Rucker Park, and the broader roots of local basketball, the project connects the sport’s growth to the city’s schools, parks, and communities. The website notes that it is still under construction.
