## Description

The Elizabeth Oakes Smith Society is a scholarly and educational organization dedicated to recovering and sharing the life and work of Elizabeth Oakes Smith, a prominent mid-nineteenth-century American writer and advocate for women’s rights. The Society introduces her to twenty-first-century readers and encourages students, scholars, and the public to explore her contributions to literary and cultural history. Its website provides biographical resources, including a chronology and research updates, alongside extensive bibliographies of Smith’s writing and critical scholarship. Visitors can explore her novels, poetry, stories and sketches, gift books, lectures, essays and other nonfiction, plays, and additional works. The site also links readers to original publications in digital archives where available. The Society supports continued research through membership, conferences and calls for papers, newsletters, and opportunities for students and professors to contribute to ongoing recovery efforts. It shares news and educational content through its blog and provides information about donating to support its work.
