## Description

Oak Hill Cemetery is Birmingham, Alabama’s original city cemetery and the historic resting place of many of the city’s pioneers and leaders. Laid out in the tradition of the great rural cemeteries, its grounds were intended not only for burial but also for walking, reflection, and celebrating life and history. Oak Hill has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since July 13, 1977, and has served the community for more than 150 years.

The cemetery conducts graveside burial and inurnment services and offers available single-space and family plots. Its online burial search helps relatives, genealogists, and history enthusiasts locate interments, with additional research resources available through the on-site archives. Visitors can explore cemetery maps, historical documents, stories, and frequently asked questions, or join seasonal tours and gatherings.

Oak Hill’s grounds, monuments, and plots are preserved and restored with support from the community. People can contribute through donations, volunteering, and other forms of support.
