About

Description

OCA Greater Houston, established in 1979, is an organization dedicated to embracing the hopes and dreams of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). As a volunteer-driven organization, OCA-GH aims to meet the evolving needs of the diverse AAPI population through various programs targeting different stages of life. Their comprehensive continuum of programs focuses on developing advocacy, leadership, and civic engagement among AAPIs.

Through arts and culture, OCA-Greater Houston advocates for social justice, provides leadership training, education workshops, legal clinics, internships, scholarships, mentoring, and civic engagement opportunities. They also monitor national and local advocacy activities, policy positions, and initiatives. By impacting the next generation, OCA-GH encourages AAPIs to seek leadership roles and representation in business, government, and community leadership.

Their goal is to increase long-term leadership, civic participation, education, and engagement in the Greater Houston metropolitan area. They prioritize inclusivity and aim to address language, cultural, and economic barriers faced by the AAPI community. OCA–Asian Pacific American Advocates, with headquarters in Washington, DC, is a national membership-driven civil rights organization that OCA Greater Houston is affiliated with.

Through their national and local presence, OCA empowers the APA community, with over 100 chapters and college affiliates across the country
