## Description

IOTA, the International Occultation Timing Association, is a pioneering tax-exempt organization founded in 1983 in Texas, USA. Dedicated to scientific research and public education, IOTA engages members in expeditions across the globe to observe and record rare astronomical events known as occultations, where stars are obscured by minor planets. These unique observations, often requiring significant travel for brief phenomena, are crucial for gathering data that enhances our understanding of celestial bodies' sizes, shapes, and orbits.

IOTA offers a wealth of educational resources, including manuals, software, and equipment recommendations, to bolster the capabilities of amateur and professional astronomers alike. The organization supports various initiatives, including collaborations with institutions like the Southwest Research Institute, focusing on both solar system exploration and planetary defense. With a global community of observers, IOTA invites citizen scientists at every experience level to participate in this exciting field of astronomy, fostering discovery and knowledge-sharing across continents.
