## Description

Oceanites is a global nonprofit founded in the United States that has monitored penguin populations on the rapidly warming Antarctic Peninsula for more than 30 years. It treats penguins as indicators of climate change and Antarctic ecosystem health, combining field counts with drone and satellite imagery to collect and analyze conservation data. Oceanites makes its data openly available to support researchers, policymakers, and the public.

Its key resources include MAPPPD, an open-access database that brings together field surveys, aerial and satellite imagery, and citizen science, and the annual State of Antarctic Penguins (SOAP) report, which summarizes population trends. The organization tracks three penguin species across Antarctic locations and shares findings through scientific and diplomatic conferences to inform conservation and treaty decisions.

Oceanites also offers education and outreach on penguins and climate change, connecting communities with Antarctic science. People can support its work through donations, colony adoptions, volunteering, partnerships, and citizen science.
