## Description

The Ocean State Crossing is a Rhode Island open-water endurance event that brings athletes together for a challenging 15-mile journey along the state’s coastline, from Newport to Narragansett. Produced by the team behind the Waterman Eco-Challenge, the event builds on more than 16 years of coastal endurance-event experience. It is designed for serious paddlers and rowers seeking genuine ocean conditions, with no flat-water course or shortcuts, and a command vessel, safety fleet, and real-time course management supporting competitors.

Participants can choose from a broad range of craft and divisions, including prone paddleboards, stand-up paddleboards, surf boats, sculls, dories, surfski, outrigger canoes, and kayaks. The event emphasizes preparation, achievement, and earning a place among those who complete the crossing. Its wider impact includes fundraising for cancer research in Rhode Island, public-access AED deployment, and the Janice Causey Memorial Scholarship. The 2026 Ocean State Crossing is scheduled for August 15, with a limited field. The website offers registration information, race results, event updates, and an email newsletter for prospective competitors.
