## Description

Offaly History, also known as Offaly Historical & Archaeological Society, is a brand that is committed to preserving and sharing the rich history of Offaly, a county located in Ireland. Established in 1938 and re-established in 1969, Offaly History is located in Tullamore, in close proximity to the Tullamore D.E.W. Visitor Centre. The brand's mission is to promote Offaly History, including community and family history. They achieve this by offering a variety of services and products. These include promoting all aspects of history in Co. Offaly, providing a genealogy service for counties Laois and Offaly, and offering a wide range of Co. Offaly photographic records for study and sale. They also have a book store and website where they sell Offaly interest books, as well as publish their own books under Esker Press. Offaly History is a non-profit community group, and they focus on enhancing educational opportunities and fostering civic pride in local identity. They do this through monthly lectures, seminars, exhibitions, film screenings, and tours to places of historical interest. They also collect and digitize original primary source materials, operate a family history research center, and maintain a library of books, recordings, newspapers, and artifacts. The Society is also actively involved in policy advisory, ensuring that heritage matters are prioritized by government departments, local authorities, tourism agencies, and key opinion formers. They have a dedicated committee of individuals who are passionate about collecting and promoting the heritage of the county. Overall, Offaly History is a valuable resource for anyone interested in exploring the history of Offaly and its surrounding areas.
