## Description

The Ohio Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (Ohio HBPA) is a nonprofit trade association representing nearly 2,500 Thoroughbred owners and trainers racing at Belterra Park, Mahoning Valley Race Course, and Thistledown. Its mission is “horsemen helping horsemen,” supporting members and advocating for their interests across Ohio’s racing industry. The association negotiates with track management and represents members before the Ohio legislature and the Ohio State Racing Commission. It also supports members’ health care and retirement benefits through financial contributions to the Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Health Fund.

Ohio HBPA programs include a scholarship program, retirement assistance, and a claiming insurance program, with information and enrollment resources available to members. The association also provides membership benefits and shares industry updates, racing notices, board information, and a calendar of relevant events. As an affiliate of the National HBPA, based in Lexington, Kentucky, the Ohio organization connects local horsemen with a broader network while focusing on the needs of Thoroughbred racing participants in Ohio.
