About
Description
One World Education is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming students into effective writers and communicators. With a strong belief in the power of student voice and the importance of writing instruction, One World Education aims to develop critical thinking and writing skills in middle school, high school, and adult learners. The need for this program is evident, as only a third of DC students graduate high school ready for college writing, resulting in significant costs for colleges and companies nationwide.
In today's 140-character world, students must learn to write logically, succinctly, and eloquently. One World Education's mission is to empower students with voice, knowledge, and purpose, and their vision is for all students to become effective writers and communicators. The program started in 2007 at the SEED Public Charter School, where the founder, Eric Goldstein, challenged students to research and write about topics that mattered to them.
Engagement increased when students wrote about social justice issues directly relevant to their lives. Since then, One World Education has expanded to serve students across the city and has become a leader in writing programs in Washington, DC, as well as in Richmond, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore schools. Through their team of dedicated professionals, including Drew Anderson, Eric Goldstein, Jessie Grosshart, Jessica Leader, Dave McGloin, Leith Mondry, Lyric Simms, and Summer Xavier, One World Education continues to make a significant impact on students' lives.
They also have a passionate Board of Directors committed to building a more effective and equitable education system in America. Whether in their in-school program, afterschool program, or through the One World Challenge, One World Education provides valuable resources, teacher support, and impactful experiences for students. They believe in the power of stories, and through their curriculum and instruction, they help students find their voices.
If you're looking to support a cause that promotes critical thinking, writing skills, and effective communication, consider donating or getting involved with One World Education. Together, we can empower students to become confident, articulate, and successful individuals
