Open-Archives.org is an innovative online platform dedicated to enhancing archival transparency in post-Soviet countries. Building an interactive ranking system, it assesses the openness of archives across nations such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Ukraine. The platform features insightful blogs covering various archival issues, a comprehensive methodology for assessment, and extensive research findings related to existing archival legislation and practices. Developed in collaboration with the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and partnered entities, Open-Archives.org seeks to confront the complex legacies of Soviet-era archives, many of which remain classified and inaccessible to researchers and the public. By promoting a collective standard for archival openness, the platform encourages cross-border scholarly collaboration and aims to digitize archival documents, making them more accessible. The initiative fosters a vital discourse around historical truth and aims to counter misinformation by providing access to essential documentary evidence, thus supporting a more informed understanding of the post-Soviet past.
