## Description

The Alliance for Language Technologies European Digital Infrastructure Consortium, known as ALT-EDIC, was formed to enhance and support the development of language technologies across Europe. Officially established by a Commission decision in February 2024, ALT-EDIC unites 17 members and 8 observer regions, coordinated from its historic base in Château de Villers-Cotterêts, France.

ALT-EDIC's mission is focused on increasing the availability of European language data for training Large Language Models (LLMs) and addressing the challenges surrounding linguistic diversity and cultural richness. The consortium is dedicated to several key actions, including the creation of a comprehensive language data repository, development of new LLM projects, and the establishment of evaluation and normalization standards for natural language processing models.

With a strong emphasis on collaboration between public and private sectors, ALT-EDIC actively promotes an inclusive language technology ecosystem, while enabling knowledge-sharing and cultural engagement. They are currently recruiting for their core team in preparation for launching operations in spring 2025.
