OpenNPI is a brand that provides open access to the National Provider Identifier (NPI) database of the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS). The NPI Lookup feature enables users to search the comprehensive NPI database. The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a 10-position, intelligence-free numeric identifier issued by CMS, which uniquely identifies health care providers. All individual health care providers and organizations must obtain an NPI for use in administrative and financial transactions under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This includes physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, hospitals, nursing homes, medical equipment suppliers, and more. OpenNPI also offers a search feature for Open Payments. With OpenNPI, users can easily access accurate and up-to-date information about health care providers across the United States.
