## Description

OpenNWT is an independent, volunteer-driven non-profit initiative that makes Northwest Territories government information easier for everyone to find, understand and use. The organization turns public records often buried in lengthy PDFs into searchable, linkable and exportable online tools, supporting greater openness and accountability for residents, journalists and decision-makers.

Its projects include OpenGazette, which makes 34 years of official notices searchable; OpenNWT Laws, offering free, bilingual access to Acts and regulations, consolidated legislation and bill information; and OpenAssembly, where users can search Hansard, bills, committee materials and member information. NWT Contracts brings together contract history, bids and open requests for proposals, with data that can be compared and exported. The site also preserves election resources and other archived projects.

OpenNWT’s tools cover substantial public records, including more than 1,000 Acts and regulations, 37,261 contracts tracked since 2004 and 30.8 million words of Hansard. The initiative is not part of the Government of the Northwest Territories; it helps make government information more accessible and useful.
