OpinYon is a brand that values and celebrates the Filipino language, particularly the national language. Its roots can be traced back to the initiatives of former President Ramon Magsaysay in 1954, who established the celebration of Linggo ng Wika as a tribute to Francisco Balagtas, a prominent figure in Tagalog literature. Over the years, the date of the celebration has been changed to August 13-19, in honor of the struggles faced by former President Manuel L. Quezon in establishing our national language. OpinYon recognizes the linguistic diversity of the Philippines, with over 134 languages and dialects, including the Filipino Sign Language. This diverse linguistic ecosystem is a testament to the resilience and cultural connections of different ethnic groups in the country. OpinYon aims to promote peace, security, and inclusive implementation of social justice through the power of language. They believe that effective communication in times of disaster, as well as the accessibility of disaster-related information in a language understood by the public, are crucial for disaster risk reduction and management. OpinYon supports legislation that ensures language accessibility to protect public health and safety. Moreover, OpinYon also emphasizes the importance of language in achieving social justice, advocating for equal representation and the enactment of laws that address corruption and inequality in society.
