Optima's story began with the vision of David Hovey Sr., who was frustrated by the traditional model of separate owners, architects, and developers. He wanted architecture and design to take the lead in the development process, which led to the creation of Optima. Starting with small projects, Optima quickly grew and took on new and bigger challenges with each endeavor.

In 2000, Optima expanded to Arizona, seeing the opportunity to create innovative and functional residences in urban cores and take advantage of the state's warm weather and outdoor lifestyle. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's work, Optima sought to design residences that integrated seamlessly with the desert environment. During the market crisis in 2007, Optima's ownership team worked together to preserve the business and uphold their commitments to partners, buyers, and communities.

They made sacrifices and adjusted their strategy, ultimately continuing to deliver on their long-term vision. Moving forward, Optima aims to further evolve their vertically integrated system, find great sites, and build meaningful relationships to bring higher density to locations in need.
