## Description

Oral History Australia (OHA) is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the ethical practice of oral history in Australia and overseas. It brings together members through State associations, which offer support, events and opportunities to connect with practitioners. OHA champions the recording of life stories, with particular attention to people and communities under-represented in historical records, and recognises oral history’s value in deepening understanding and shaping change.

The organisation supports the field through practical guidance on planning and conducting interviews, hiring an oral history practitioner, training and remote interviewing. Its State associations offer workshops and member events, including introductory courses that help participants prepare, conduct, record and document interviews while considering ethical responsibilities. OHA also publishes an annual journal, hosts a biennial conference, and presents awards recognising contributions to oral history. Members and the wider public can access resources, news, projects and information about events through its website. With a national network and a strong focus on ethical storytelling, Oral History Australia helps people preserve recorded memories and strengthen the role of personal experience in the historical record.
