About Orange Shirt Society

Description

The Orange Shirt Society is a non-profit organization based in Williams Lake, BC, dedicated to creating awareness of the individual, family, and community inter-generational impacts of Indian Residential Schools. Founded in 2013 by Phyllis (Jack) Webstad and others, the Society supports Indian Residential School Reconciliation and endeavors to promote the concept of "Every Child Matters. " With both Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff and board members, the organization offers a variety of resources and events to promote education and understanding.


Their Reconciliation Hub provides educational resources, including speakers and information about Canadian history, the Residential School System, the Indian Act, and more. Additionally, their annual Orange Shirt Day on September 30th serves as a national day for truth and reconciliation. To further support their mission, you can make a donation to the Orange Shirt Society.
