## Description

Oranje Nationaal is a community association in Berltsum, also known as Berlikum, founded in 1946. Run for and by local residents, it brings people together through celebrations and activities connected with national holidays and village life. Its main event is a four-day village festival held every three years, typically from Wednesday through Saturday, welcoming residents of Berltsum and the surrounding area. The association also organizes activities around King’s Day each year, with celebrations beginning on the evening of 26 April. A distinctive tradition sees the village’s oldest resident measure the girth of the King’s tree on King’s Day. Oranje Nationaal shares information about its events, history and committee through its website and social media, and invites people to become members. Its programme has included village festivals, anniversary events and royal celebrations, reflecting a long-standing commitment to local participation and shared traditions. The association is affiliated with the Bond van Oranjeverenigingen, the national association of Orange societies.
