## Description

Oriole Networks is a photonic networking company developing technologies for artificial intelligence, machine learning and high-performance computing data centres. Its flagship solution, PRISM (Photonic Routing Infrastructure for Scalable Models), replaces energy-intensive electrical switching with an all-optical network that moves data using light. Designed to connect GPUs at scale, PRISM aims to improve training and inference performance, reduce communication-related GPU idle time and lower network power use and cooling demands.

The PRISM system combines software and hardware, including software plugins and PCIe drivers, network interface and controller cards, integrated photonic switches and transceivers, and passive modular photonic routers. It is designed to integrate with existing frameworks and infrastructure, support gradual plug-and-grow deployment, and handle workloads ranging from small data transfers to large distributed AI systems. Oriole says its network can support up to one million endpoints, with multiple paths between nodes to maintain communication if a component fails. The company also shares news and insights on photonic networking, AI innovation and more sustainable data centre design through its blog and knowledge base.
