## Description

The National Observatory on Health in the Italian Regions is a research and information initiative based at the Catholic University of Rome, within the Department of Life Sciences and Public Health, Section of Hygiene. Its purpose is to collect comparable regional data and monitor the health of Italy’s regions and population. The Observatory publishes the annual Osservasalute Report, which assesses health outcomes and the quality of regional healthcare through data, indicators and critical analysis. It also produces dedicated reports on the environment and metropolitan areas, alongside partnership research and other in-depth studies.

For citizens, journalists and policymakers, the Observatory provides accessible commentary on current health issues, selecting topics from its research and reports. Its work has included analysis of disability, mortality and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic across Italian regions, provinces and European countries. It has also shared downloadable pandemic data and developed a dashboard tracking infection trends, severity and pressure on the National Health Service.
