## Description

Outback Opals is a family-run Australian opal business now in its second generation. Since 1989, the Kalthaus family has spent several months each year in the Australian outback searching for opals and building first-hand knowledge of the stones and their mining. The business became independent in 1995 and has since developed customers across Europe, as well as attending trade fairs in America.

Outback Opals supplies Australian opals to goldsmiths and jewellers. Its services include selecting and shipping opals, cutting stones, and presenting them through exhibitions hosted with jewellery professionals, alongside appearances at trade fairs. Owner Christoph Kalthaus continues to travel to Australia to source opals, while his son Felix joined the business in 2017 after spending time learning about mining in the opal fields. Felix also runs fairs and exhibitions, with Katarina Kalthaus contributing to events and office work. Combining direct sourcing with years of experience, Outback Opals shares its knowledge of Australian opals with jewellery professionals and customers.
