## Description

OVAID (Orangutan Veterinary Aid) is a voluntary-run charity established in 2014 with a mission to provide veterinary equipment, medicines, and practical expertise to orangutan rescue groups and rescue centers in Indonesia and Malaysia. This independent charity aims to improve resources and welfare for rescued orangutans in the face of deforestation and other environmental challenges. Co-founder and vet Nigel Hicks, along with his wife Sara Fell Hicks, have been working closely with orangutans in Borneo since 2009. Their experiences led them to recognize the need for formal support in the form of veterinary equipment and mentoring. OVAID actively assists veterinarians in the field through training programs, up-skilling initiatives, and the OVAID Bronwyn Watson Scholarship. The charity also focuses on spreading awareness about the detrimental effects of deforestation on the orangutan population, as well as other wildlife species and human populations. OVAID's ethos is always to prioritize what is best for the orangutan. With the support of their global network of volunteers and fundraisers, OVAID has successfully collaborated with various organizations, including the Centre for Orangutan Protection, International Animal Rescue, Orangutan Project, Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, and more. To make a difference and support the cause, you can donate, adopt an orangutan vet, or leave a lasting legacy. Stay informed by exploring their website and following them on Facebook. Together, we can protect and conserve orangutans and their natural habitat.
