They are a diverse team of Anishinaabe, Mdewakanton Dakota, Navajo, Northern Cheyenne, Oglala Lakota, Wahpeton-Sisseton Dakota individuals, who are chefs, ethnobotanists, food preservationists, adventurers, foragers, caterers, event planners, artists, musicians, food truckers, and food lovers. At the forefront of Owamni is Chef Sean Sherman, an Oglala Lakota born in Pine Ridge, SD, with over 30 years of culinary experience. He has dedicated himself to studying and understanding the foundations of indigenous food systems, including farming techniques, wild food usage, land stewardship, and many more. In 2014, he founded The Sioux Chef, a catering and food education business, and later collaborated with the Little Earth Community of United Tribes to open the Tatanka Truck food truck. Chef Sean's vision and expertise in modern indigenous foods have garnered recognition, with features in articles, radio shows, and prestigious events like the James Beard House.
