PAARI, the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative, is a national nonprofit organization that supports law enforcement agencies in creating non-arrest pathways to addiction treatment and recovery. Recognizing that law enforcement plays a crucial role in preventing overdose deaths, PAARI offers training, strategic guidance, and resources to police departments across the country. They aim to change the narrative around addiction by reframing it as a disease rather than a crime.

With a network of nearly 600 police departments in 34 states, PAARI focuses on non-arrest programs that reach individuals before they enter the criminal justice system. These programs are tailored to the community and can utilize multiple entry points to treatment. Cross-sector collaboration is essential, involving clinicians, social workers, recovery coaches, and volunteers.

Law enforcement agencies and public safety organizations can join PAARI free of cost to access resources, technical assistance, training, and a supportive network. Together, PAARI and its partners are building a movement to shift away from an arrest-first approach and help people on their path to recovery
