## Description

PADECO (Promotion et Appui au Développement Communautaire) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1995 to address poverty and social injustice in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Based in South Kivu, it works with communities, particularly in rural areas, to improve access to essential services and support sustainable, locally led development. Its objectives include strengthening community capacity, encouraging self-reliance, and helping revive local economies.

PADECO’s work spans health, rural infrastructure, food security, education, research, and humanitarian assistance. Its projects have included building and equipping the PADECO health centre in Chiherano, supporting primary health care, developing rural water and electricity systems, and rehabilitating agricultural access roads. The organization also assists vulnerable households through agricultural and livestock inputs, technical training for small-scale farmers, nutrition support, and microfinance initiatives for women affected by conflict. In education, it supports school construction and equipment, literacy centres, and research on local markets and crop commercialization. During emergencies, PADECO distributes food, essential non-food items, and agricultural supplies to people affected by conflict and natural disasters.
