## Description

The Catholic Historical Research Center of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHRC) collects, preserves, and provides access to records documenting the Archdiocese and the growth of Catholicism in the region. Its collections support research into the history of Catholic communities, institutions, clergy, and public life in Philadelphia.

Researchers can explore manuscript collections, including records of Philadelphia’s bishops and archbishops and papers held by the American Catholic Historical Society. The Center also holds photographs, graphics, parish histories and calendars, pamphlets, and one of the largest collections of Catholic newspapers in the United States. Its digital resources include searchable historical newspapers and parish baptismal and marriage records, with access arrangements varying by resource.

CHRC offers research guidance, access policies, information about services and fees, and resources for tracing parish histories. Visitors can also browse an online catalog, exhibits, and blog posts highlighting collection items. Through exhibitions, digitization projects, and online resources, the Center helps make the region’s Catholic heritage available to researchers and the wider public.
