## Description

The Paleontological Society is a professional organization dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of the fossil record, paleontology, and the evolution of life. Founded in 1908, it supports research and education across invertebrate and vertebrate paleontology, micropaleontology, and paleobotany. Its diverse membership includes students, teachers, researchers, museum professionals, and avocational paleontologists from around the world.

The Society fosters the exchange of ideas through meetings, conferences, short courses, webinars, and educational resources. It publishes the Journal of Paleontology and Paleobiology, alongside other scholarly and learning resources, including Elements of Paleontology and Treatise Online. Members can access online journals and opportunities to share and develop their work.

To support the field and its community, the Society offers research, outreach, collections, travel, and diversity-focused grants, as well as awards, scholarships, fellowships, and student programs. It also promotes responsible fossil collecting and ethical research practices, and advocates for paleontology and inclusive participation. Through these programs and publications, the Society works to strengthen paleontological research, education, and public understanding of life’s history.
