## Description

Paul Fortis is a Santa Cruz, California–based fine artist whose work reflects more than forty years of observing and painting the landscape. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and educated at UC Santa Cruz, he focuses primarily on soft pastel and oil, capturing the natural beauty of Northern California and the American West.

Fortis’s soft pastel paintings use hand-layered color to portray coastlines, gardens, and the shifting light of California. His plein air work is created outdoors, where he responds directly to the light, weather, color, and character of each location. Recent works include scenes from Santa Cruz, Capitola, Cambria, Sedona, Altadena, and the Grand Canyon.

Visitors can explore his pastel and plein air collections, follow announcements about open studios and exhibitions, and view an archive of past events. Fortis participates in Santa Cruz County Open Studios and regional plein air events. He is available for inquiries about artwork, commissions, studio visits, and exhibitions through his website.
