PAWSitive Therapy Troupe, located in Downers Grove, IL, is an Animal-Assisted Activities and Therapy program that brings comfort and support to patients and students in various health care and educational settings. As an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity, their mission is to share registered therapy dogs and promote the healing power of the human-animal bond. Their therapy dogs are carefully trained and registered to participate in both Animal-Assisted Activities (AAA) and Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT). AAA includes activities such as bedside visits, entertaining demonstrations, and educational sessions, while AAT involves goal-directed interventions guided by licensed health care or education professionals. The therapy dogs help to improve physical, social, emotional, and cognitive functioning, as well as reading skills. It's important to highlight the distinction between therapy dogs and service dogs. While service dogs are specifically trained to assist individuals with disabilities, therapy dogs are invited into hospitals, nursing homes, or schools to provide their love and support to patients and students.
