## Description

The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is a renowned brand dedicated to the protection and welfare of performing animals. They specialize in rescuing abused, neglected, retired, and needy captive wildlife. PAWS aims to put an end to the indiscriminate breeding of exotic animals for the pet industry and the use of wild animals in entertainment through intervention and legislation.

For over 25 years, PAWS has been leading the way in rescuing animals and providing them with appropriate, humane sanctuary. Founded in 1984 by Pat Derby, a former Hollywood animal trainer, and her partner Ed Stewart, PAWS currently operates three sanctuaries in Northern California. These sanctuaries offer a peaceful and dignified life for abandoned, abused, and retired performing animals, as well as victims of the exotic animal trade.

PAWS also takes an active role in investigating reports of animal abuse, documenting cruelty, and assisting regulatory agencies in their investigations and prosecutions. They are internationally recognized for their pioneering work in animal welfare, particularly their "non-dominance" method of elephant handling, which eliminates the need for bull hooks or aversive training techniques.

In addition to their rescue and sanctuary efforts, PAWS is committed to the preservation of wild species and their habitats. They promote public education about captive wildlife issues and have established international programs in India, Mexico, Africa, and Cambodia to protect wildlife and minimize human/elephant conflict.

As a 4-star charity listed with Charity Navigator and a proud member of the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, PAWS is dedicated to enforcing the highest standards of care for all captive wildlife. By supporting PAWS, you are not only contributing to the well-being of these incredible animals, but also helping to create a more compassionate world for all wildlife.
