## Description

NewYorkCoin (NYC) is an open-source, decentralized Layer 1 blockchain and cryptocurrency, launched on March 6, 2014. Built as a Litecoin fork, it is designed for fast, fee-free payments worldwide. The network uses Scrypt proof-of-work, with block confirmations approximately every 30 seconds and no transaction fees. NewYorkCoin is community-governed, with no pre-mine or central authority, and its transactions are described as anonymous. Its development is supported by volunteers and the New York Coin Center.

The project offers official full-node wallets for Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus a non-custodial Android wallet with multi-coin support. Users can explore the blockchain, access the source code, and trade NYC through several centralized and decentralized exchanges. Businesses can use NYC for retail and online payments; the community is developing point-of-sale integrations, payment APIs, and e-commerce plugins.
