## Description

The Upper Pecos Watershed Association (UPWA) works to protect, maintain, and improve the health of the Pecos River watershed, while supporting the local economy and cultures connected to it. The organization brings together its board, advisory board, and community stakeholders around shared goals for the watershed. Its work focuses on protecting good water quality and restoring areas where water quality falls short, while safeguarding tributaries, wildlife, and the broader river ecosystem.

UPWA provides watershed planning and information, including its Watershed-Based Plan, which was updated with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the New Mexico Environment Department. The plan incorporates new implementation projects and examines the effects of major wildfires in the watershed in 2013. The association also shares information on wetlands, sub-watersheds, endangered species, and water quality protection in New Mexico. Through active and completed restoration projects, community initiatives, membership, and donations, UPWA invites people to participate in preserving the Upper Pecos watershed and its recreational opportunities.
