## Description

The Historisch-Technisches Museum Peenemünde is a museum and research institution dedicated to examining the history of the Peenemünde research and testing facilities. From 1936 to 1945, the site became Europe’s largest military research centre, where thousands of people worked on new weapons, including the first cruise missile and a functioning large-scale rocket. These weapons were designed for use against civilians, built largely by forced labourers and deployed during the Second World War. The museum’s exhibitions explore how the weapons were developed and used, who worked at Peenemünde, how people lived there, and why the costly projects were undertaken. Visitors can also explore the surrounding Peenemünde heritage landscape through a public walking route linking the museum to 23 historic sites. A free web app supports this visit with information about the locations. The museum offers educational programmes for school groups and adults, international youth exchanges and summer camps, concerts, events, special exhibitions and guided tours. Its collection and research activities include an archive, object collection, library and publications.
