PEIFA, the Prince Edward Island Fishermen's Association, is a representative group that advocates for the interests of Island fishers. Established in the 1950s, PEIFA aims to address industry issues and communicate with the government on behalf of fishers. With a united voice, they work towards advancing the concerns of fishers, promoting collaboration among fisher organizations in different provinces, and ensuring effective communication within fishing communities. PEIFA holds a convention and annual general meeting each winter, where members can discuss important matters and vote on issues. The association is recognized as the representative organization for all core fishers in Prince Edward Island and is composed of six member Locals covering specific geographical areas. To become a member, individuals must meet the Department of Fisheries and Oceans designation criteria and pay an annual membership fee.
