## Description

Penal Reform International (PRI) is a non-governmental organization that works globally to promote criminal justice systems that uphold human rights for all individuals without causing harm. PRI is dedicated to making criminal justice systems non-discriminatory and protecting the rights of disadvantaged people. They run practical human rights programs and offer support for reforms that aim to make criminal justice fair and effective. PRI recognizes that criminal law, due process, and detention practices are crucial in protecting human rights. They believe that the health of criminal justice systems and conditions in prisons are vital indicators of a country's human rights status. With over 11 million individuals in prison worldwide, PRI focuses on addressing key trends, such as alternatives to imprisonment, rehabilitation and reintegration, pre-trial justice, prison conditions, and more. They work closely with various stakeholders, including governments, international organizations, and civil society organizations, to achieve their mission of creating fair and effective criminal justice systems that prioritize the protection of human rights.
