## Description

Perempuan Laut is an Indonesian nonprofit organization established in 2024 to empower women in protecting the ocean and building sustainable livelihoods. Its work recognizes women’s important roles in fisheries, aquaculture, and coastal communities, while addressing barriers such as unequal pay, limited resources, and the impacts of ocean degradation. The organization brings people together through community projects, networking, and capacity-building activities, and supports marine conservation through research and storytelling. Its website shares articles, reports, events, and local champions’ stories, highlighting women’s contributions and challenges across Indonesia’s maritime communities. Ocean Kitchen is a recurring feature presenting regional seafood traditions and recipes, including salted fish and Maluku’s gohu ikan. Perempuan Laut also publishes educational materials and research on women’s roles in caring for marine ecosystems, and invites supporters to contribute through donations and merchandise. Led by people with experience in marine science, ocean governance, and the fishing industry, the organization connects community knowledge with broader efforts toward gender equality and a healthier ocean.
