## Description

PERITIA is a European research initiative focused on public trust in expertise and its role in democratic governance. Funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, the project brought together a multidisciplinary team to investigate when and why people trust experts whose knowledge informs public policy. Its work addressed issues of broad public importance, including science, health, climate change and democracy, with the aim of helping citizens and policymakers identify trustworthy expertise.

From 2020 to 2023, PERITIA produced research outputs, reports and policy briefs, and shared its findings through podcasts, conferences and public events. Its resources include the Trust Hub, which lets users explore survey data on trust in people and institutions involved in public policy, and a Trustworthiness Toolkit offering practical guidance for assessing expert advice and information. PERITIA also developed outreach activities through its continuing Network of Research on Trust and Expertise. The initiative’s work supports informed public discussion and decision-making by making research on trust and expertise more accessible to academics, policymakers and citizens.
