About
Description
The Petey Greene Program (PGP) is dedicated to transforming pre-collegiate education for currently and formerly incarcerated learners and educating justice-oriented citizens. Founded in 2008, PGP supports the academic goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals through high-quality volunteer tutoring programs. They also educate volunteers about the injustices within our carceral system and encourage them to engage in justice-oriented activism.
PGP focuses on the pre-collegiate level, which is a critical area of need. They aim to disrupt the cycle that prevents formerly incarcerated people from obtaining high school diplomas or postsecondary success. By partnering with carceral facilities and reentry programs, PGP provides flexible, student-centered, and professional tutoring services.
The supportive human interaction provided by the tutors is highly valued by the incarcerated individuals, fostering their self-efficacy and helping them succeed. PGP also trains volunteers on effective tutoring in carceral settings and connects them with the broader movement for change. The organization believes that everyone deserves a chance and that we are responsible for each other.
They work to ensure that all formerly and currently incarcerated people have access to high-quality education. Consider joining PGP as a volunteer or supporting their work through donations. Together, let's create a more just society by providing educational opportunities for justice-involved individuals
