## Description

The Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PIG-PIB) is a public research institution conducting scientific work across modern geology and carrying out Poland’s geological survey responsibilities. Its research and public services support understanding of the country’s geological structure, natural resources, groundwater and geohazards, with work spanning energy security, climate and environmental protection, and safe infrastructure.

The institute offers expertise in geophysics, engineering and marine geology, mineralogy, micropalaeontology, geological mapping, laboratories, geotourism and environmental protection. Its services include geological and hydrogeological information, data and databases, geological 3D modelling, resource assessments, groundwater monitoring and reports, and support for local governments and industry. It also addresses mineral resources, geothermal energy and geological hazards.

PIG-PIB shares its work through publications, educational activities, conferences and public events. Its Geological Museum and specialist library provide additional resources for visitors and researchers. Through scientific projects, data services and cooperation in Poland and internationally, the institute contributes geological knowledge to public administration, research and practical decision-making.
