## Description

The Primary Immunodeficiency Association (PiA) was a UK charity supporting people affected by primary immunodeficiency (PID) and related conditions, including common variable immunodeficiency, severe combined immunodeficiency, agammaglobulinaemia, neutropenia and hereditary angioedema. Formed from the Hypogammaglobulinaemia Society, it developed into PiA in 1990 and represented patients while working with immunologists, specialist nurses and other healthcare professionals.

PiA provided information and support through publications, a helpline, discussions, events and guidance for GPs. It also raised awareness of PID, supported fundraising and research, and advocated for appropriate treatment and services. Its work included campaigning for access to immunoglobulin therapy, contributing to treatment guidance, promoting specialist care and providing alert cards to help people with hereditary angioedema receive timely treatment.

The supplied site text announces that PiA’s trustees decided to close the charity following the loss of expected funding. At the time of the announcement, the organisation was working to encourage the development of an alternative national patient group and planned to retain its members’ contact database.
