## Description

Pico Dogs is an animal welfare organization focused on helping abandoned dogs on Pico Island and neighbouring islands in the Azores. Its mission is to prepare dogs for life as pets and companions and connect them with loving permanent families. The organization works to ease pressure on crowded municipal shelters through several initiatives. Its sterilization campaigns support efforts to reduce unwanted litters and the number of dogs needing homes. Pico Dogs also plans educational campaigns for young people, promoting kinder, more responsible attitudes towards dogs and cats, alongside an online channel featuring content from its collaborators. A central project is the development of a rescue centre specifically for elderly dogs from Pico’s municipal shelters, offering an environment better suited to their age and needs. International adoption is another core activity, helping dogs leave local shelters for homes abroad. Through its website, Pico Dogs shares adoption guidance, animal care information, project updates and success stories, and invites the public to support its work through donations and other forms of help.
