Piel Melaza, owned and operated by Paola Maldonado, is a brand dedicated to creating high-quality body products and teas. Paola, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, holds a Bachelor's degree in Applied Chemistry and a Master's degree in Environmental Chemistry. In 2018, during her first semester of her Master's program, Paola started her business.

Dealing with medical issues with her mother, Paola found solace in creating body products and teas. She soon discovered that soap-making became therapeutic, helping her manage anxiety and stress while studying and teaching chemistry. As a result, she had an abundance of handmade soaps, which she started giving away to friends, professors, and the department administration.

The demand for her soaps grew, and people began asking to purchase them. After some consideration, a friend surprised Paola with a private soap-making workshop. This experience encouraged her to turn her passion into a business, and Piel Melaza was born.
