About

Description

Pilgrim Africa is an international organization that was founded as a response to the dire situation faced by over 1. 5 million refugees living in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in war-torn Northern Uganda. Led by Ugandan native Calvin Echodu, Pilgrim Africa initially provided basic medical and nutritional relief, as well as psycho-social support, to these desperate refugees.

Over the years, the organization has expanded its scope and now focuses on regional and national interventions in the fields of Public Health and Education. Pilgrim Africa has successfully resettled more than 1,000 families from IDP camps to ancestral lands and established the Beacon of Hope Secondary School, which caters to war orphans and abductees of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). Recognizing the alarming malaria intensity rates in Uganda, Pilgrim Africa entered the field of malaria control in 2008 and pioneered a comprehensive set of interventions in two districts.

The organization has also been actively engaged in enrolling administrative support for effective malaria control at the governmental level. The name Pilgrim reflects the organization's belief in the journey of life and the pursuit of hope. By living as Pilgrims, the organization strives to be a beacon of light and hope, working to eliminate suffering caused by malaria, ensuring access to education for children in Uganda, and addressing issues of food insecurity.

Pilgrim Africa envisions a world where the Kingdom of God is fully integrated, devoid of death, pain, and suffering. By selecting the path of the Pilgrim, Pilgrim Africa is dedicated to bringing about positive change and advancements in the communities they serve. Through their various interventions, they aim to restore hope, rebuild dreams, and empower individuals towards a better future.

As a registered 501(c)(3) organization, Pilgrim Africa relies on the support of donors and volunteers to continue their impactful work in Uganda
