## Description

The Australasian Plant Breeding Association (APBA) supports a global community of plant breeding professionals across research, industry, academia and government. Its work centres on connecting members, encouraging knowledge exchange and collaboration, and helping advance professional development through insights into emerging technologies and breeding methods. The association also promotes cross-sector innovation to address shared challenges in plant breeding.

A key APBA initiative is the Australasian Plant Breeding Conference (APBC), which brings together participants from sectors including grain production, viticulture, pomology, olericulture, floriculture and horticulture. The 17th conference was held in Perth from June 4 to 6, 2025, featuring plenary lectures, thematic sessions, interactive posters and working groups.

The association is guided by a representative board whose members bring expertise in areas such as genomics, crop improvement, disease resistance and breeding research. Their work spans crops and plants including sorghum, strawberries, apples, dragon fruit, tropical trees, macadamia, sugarcane and wheat. Through its community and events, APBA helps foster collaboration and growth in plant breeding across Australasia and internationally.
